We have a lot of great places to eat in the area we live, so we never really give Vargas Cafe much thought. It's not hard to do, a small strip mall spot in a small, run down strip mall. Unless you're thinking about it, we just tend to drive by it without noticing. We've never met anyone who's eaten here, yet it's about 1/4 mile from our neighborhood. Today in our quest for a nice lunch out, and growing tired of the usual suspects, we were driving south when we came across Vargas. Why not, what's the worst that can happen (see Mousetrap review)? The place is about as nondescript as you can get. A Cuban and Mexican flag hang on the wall, and take up almost all the wall space, that's how big it is. The counter had seating for about 6, and there were 4 two person tables pressed up against the wall and window. The place looked old and worn and the second I walked through I thought "this may be a mistake." I ordered the roast pork with yellow rice and black beans and my wife ordered a beef empanada with white rice and black beans. Before the meal came the brought some wonderful fresh sliced bread and a 'salsa' that was unlike any salsa we've had before. Chopped tomatos, jalepeno peppers, onions and cilantro. But not liquidy, just those ingredients freshly chopped and served together. Wow, great flavor. The meals were wonderful, mixing in the salsa even made it better. Five stars for the food, three stars for the atmosphere and the lack of fresh brewed iced tea. Service was friendly, but a tad bit slow. It's listed here as Mexican food, but they do Cuban and Mexican food.

One my favorite Cuban restaurants on the beachside. The owner there is from Cuba and is very personable. I always get the cuban sandwhich and its the best i've ever had....and i'm a picky eater. The bread is nice and soft, and nice seasoned meat...This is a small spot..good for lunch.

This little 'mom and pop' shop is awesome! I ordered the pulled beef sandwich and my friend got the special of the day: rice/chicken Spanish style. Both were really good! I totally recommend this place to anybody wanting a casual, authentic meal!

Stopped by during a vacation in Cocoa Beach and I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was really great -- each dish was authentic Cuban with noticeably fresh, high quality ingredients. Capping of the meal with a complimentary espresso was perfect. The owners were incredibly friendly and took obvious pride in their restaurant. If you're visiting and looking to try some authentic Cuban food, I would highly recommend this one.

This family owned cafe makes the best Cuban sandwiches...and their daily special looked good too. The cafe is small and caters mostly to take outs, but what a treat it is to sit at the counter or one of the tables to eat and converse with the other patrons, while the Mom is cooking your dinner and joining in the conversation. This is how a family favorite cafe should be!

Delicious Cuban food! We had Cuban sandwiches and they were the best I've had. The people working there were super sweet as well. Going back today for seconds!

Small, cozy place. The Cubano sandwich was very good. The fried pork with garlic sauce, fried plantains rice and bean rounded out a great meal. Chatting with maria, the owner was fun. The espresso coffee ended a delicious cuban meal. I would definately recommend going here. We went at 4 pm (they close at 545)......it was not busy, plenty of attention given to us with no seating issues. We loved sitting at the counter

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place has great food! I like it enough I hesitate at posting a review just so I can make sure I can get a seat in this tiny location! I've tried about 6 different dishes and each one was very tasty! I've brought friends and co-workers here and made them fans as well. Alberto is very friendly and the food is cooked to order each time. Try some of his Cuban espresso after your meal - "it'll put hair on your chest!" I haven't tried them for breakfast yet but I really want to!

Had 2 tacos with a side order of yellow rice and black beans. Thought the sides of rice & beans were overpriced at around $3 a piece, especially since the rice wasn't exactly impressive. Yes, I'm complaining about rice. Lol. This never happens but for $3 for a small side dish that was below average quality, you would be too. Moving on. I wasn't a fan of the cheap mini tortillas that the tacos are wrapped in. I forget what the brand name of them is but I've cooked with them before and I'm not a fan so I try to avoid them at all costs. I would've wished they had some good old fashioned corn shells. My boyfriend got the burrito which also was surprised at the size for $6. Could've got something twice the size at Tijuana Flats. He was also disappointed cuz it didn't fill him up:( All in all I should've just gotten a Cuban sandwich. I think for the price I would have gotten more and apparently from the reviews everyone that ordered it seems to be pretty satisfied. I do have to say that the owner was extremely hospitable, charming, friendly and funny. He also was kind enough to hook us up with free expresso from his expresso machine. It was amazing to say the least! Huge thumbs up in that aspect.

Small mom and pop diner. Maybe a half a doben seats at the bar, three (4) person tables, and one (2) person table. Good for lunch prices reasonable. I purchased the spicy cuban which was fantastic...would go there again.

What a hidden gem...the best Cuban sandwiches EVER! You will see Alberto pull out a huge ham, a giant chunk of roast pork, and a turkey to slice to make your sandwich! Wonderful!

You can always (well maybe not always) count on Yelp to get insight on a business when traveling. Thanks to the good reviews, we came to Vargas Cafe during our visit to Coca Beach. Please keep in mind that this restaurant is tiny (19 seats), but that should not stray you from trying it out. They claim to have the best Cuban sandwich, and let me tell you, I think they do! I'm Cuban and from Miami so I've tried my share of Cuban sandwiches. This one is FANTASTIC. I also had the bistec de pollo (chicken steak) with white rice and plantains and it was equally fantastic. The portion was perfect too. The service is great, the food is great and that's all I need. Good job, Vargas Cafe!

Best Cuban food we have had in Florida! I shared the beef empanadas, yellow rice, black beans & croquettes with my little one & my husband had the pork special...we literally licked our plates clean. So good & fresh. We asked Alberto for our Cuban coffee on ice & it was perfection. Our go to Cuban now...so worth the 45 minute drive from Orlando

This is a hidden gem. If you miss authentic Cuban food, then come here. The food is excellent and a very friendly and hospitable atmosphere. Alberto, Maria and their family who run this place are personable and part of the experience. Was given an espresso on the house at the end of lunch as well, which topped it all off. Definitely be back!!!

Great small restaurant with character. The walk-in to-go order right in front of me was huge, 10 dinners. Consequently, they ran out of the Ropa Veija that I came in for & were behind. What could have been a real disappointment, wasn't. It's a very small place with a bar counter & a few tables, so you really need to appreciate the fact that they aren't set up for volume. Sr. Vargas was great and a really wanted to see that everyone was taken care of. Two people doing all the cooking, waiting on customers, answering phones & cashing them out. So be patient & enjoy the atmosphere of a genuine Cuban small family restaurant. I ordered the special of the day pollo a la plancha. It came with the best frijoles I've ever had in my life, but don't tell my grandmother. I'll be back to try the Cuban sandwich & the Ropa Veija & can't wait.

Several neighbors and friends recommended Vargas for really good food; not just Cuban food, good food. Stopped for lunch around 2:00 and one seat available. Owners are so hospitable. It's more like visiting a friend or neighbor's for dinner. I was having lunch and picking up a dinner for the evening. No clue what to order so left that to Alberto, one of the owners. He delivered a really tasty cuban sandwich for lunch and the daily special for my takeout: shredded beef, black beans, salad, yellow rice. This is a really unique restaurant and well deserving of the really positive Yelp reviews. The space is small but there seems to be space for everyone. This is definitely the feel of being in someone's home. You'll be able to hear all the conversations and probably get caught up in them. You can arrive solo, but you won't be alone for long. The customers and owners bring you into the clan. Vargas is a very welcoming eatery, that makes you feel really comfortable and welcome; then you get some really tasty Cuban food that will make you so happy you stopped by.

This small cafe was good. It's pretty small, the seating area and bar probably seat a total about 15-20 people max. The service was extremely friendly and the quality of food was muy bueno. Their espresso was one of the best coffees I've had, I highly recommend trying it (come with every entree). Great Cuban food.

My mother and I were led to this place by YELP while driving through Cape Canaveral for lunch one day this summer. We were absolutely charmed! The small cafe atmosphere was wonderful. A customer at the bar jumped up to clear the table for us. The banter between owner and customers and among customers made me feel like we were being welcomed into a world-welcoming home. And the delicious food - seasoned meats, both chicken and beef - were the best I ever ate, I think. Owner was very nice - great sense of humor. Coffee spectacular. If you are in the area - TRY IT - you will like it.

Vargas has great authentic home cooked Cuban and Mexican food. Husband and wife owners provide a casual restaurant feel more like sitting in your own home living room with friends and friends. Our Cuban friends from Miami say the Cuban coffee is better than served in their local area. Great, yet opinionated conversation is a prerequisite.

Oh Wow !! This place is good. Like eating in mom's kitchen the food is fantastic. Not trendy, not fancy, just a clean place with good authentic Cuban food and welcoming friendly service. First time here for my wife and I but we will be back soon.

While visiting my friends, I had a craving for a cafecito (cuban coffee) and found this place on yelp. I am trying to indoctrinate my friends about the mystical properties of a Cuban coffee. We met the owners who were fantastic. Alberto loves to talk baseball, so we did over coffee. Then my friends got hungry and ordered the steak breakfast. You get a ton of food at a great price. Whenever I visit again, this will be a definite stop.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
